SUNY Oswego WNYO's main studio (2002)|
Earlier this week, SUNY Oswego's student-run radio station WNYO celebrated ten years as an over-the-air station. The station started out 25 years ago with a one half watt signal broadcasting to a few floors of the Seneca Hall dormitory using the call letters WSEH. In 1968, the station became WOCR and began broadcasting on carrier current at 640 AM. In the 1980's carrier current broadcasts were added on 106.1 FM, while the station saw its call letters change to WOZZ, then to WOSR. Since the April 29, 1992 launch date of a true "free air" transmission on 88.9 FM, the station has been known as WNYO.
